Biswanath Dutta is an Associate Professor at the DRTC Indian Statistical Institute (ISI, Bangalore, India) and a Courtesy Professor of DISI of the University of Trento (Italy). In 2010 he received his Ph.D. degree in Library and Information Science (LIS) from the University of Pune (India). He worked as a Post-Doctoral Fellow at the University of Trento from 2009 to 2012. He also worked as a research assistant in the Department of Computer Science, Dalhousie University (Halifax, Canada). He holds a Bachelor's degree in Physics (2009) from Vidyasagar University (India) and a Master's degree in LIS (2003) from ISI (India). He worked for VTLS Software Pvt. Ltd. from 2003 to 2005. He actively worked in a European Commission funded research project LivingKnowledge and also collaborated in the development of the GeoWordNet knowledge base. He published several scientific papers in national and international seminars, conferences, and journals. He currently serves as a secretary of the International Society for Knowledge Organization (ISKO) - India Chapter. His present research interests are in the areas of ontology modeling, knowledge organization and representation, the study of linguistic phenomena in knowledge organization, digital library, semantic web and linked data.
