Porf. Uma Kanjilal is the Professor of Library and Information Science at Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU), New Delhi. She is currently the Director of School of Social Sciences at IGNOU. She joined IGNOU as a lecturer in 1989 and then all these years she has gathered a great experience in the Open Distance Learning (ODL) system. She has always been fascinated with ICT applications in education and tried to adapt herself with the latest technologies.

She had the privilege to work on multimedia courseware development during her Fulbright Fellowship in the University of Illinois, Urbana Champaign in 1999- 2000. This was the turning point in her career which oriented her towards e-learning and multimedia courseware development.

Current Projects:

She was involved in the following projects as Coordinator:

Ø e-GyanKosh: A Digital Repository containing all IGNOU course material. The repository is powered by an open source applications.

Ø  Sakshat: A One Stop Education Portal of Ministry of Human Resource Development, India.

Ø  LIVE (Library and Information Virtual Education): A virtual platform for online Master's in Library and Information Science.

She possesses the Wikieducator Experience:

She Worked on two modules of Commonwealth Computer Navigator's Certificate (CCNC) Project:

v  Module 1 (Concepts of IT)

v  Module 2 (Using the computer and managing files)

She has also Contributed to Commonwealth Youth Programme Regional Centre for Africa project 

She is the National Coordinator of SWAYAM PRABHA.
